Physio Yoga ancient balance in a modern world

What is Physio Yoga?

A powerful antidote to the stresses of modern day life, yoga can develop a fit and supple body through regular practice of postures or poses (asanas). Yoga helps tone the muscles, stimulate the circulation and improve overall health. Postures and techniques learnt will help relaxation, breath control and you will find they have the power to calm the mind, increase your concentration and give you the ability to cope with stress and tension.

Yoga poses have been developed over centuries of research and experience. They have been found to be extremely effective in:

  • Increasing flexibility of the body and freeing all the energy blocks. Besides increasing flexibility, this leads to a healthier body.
  • Helping to lose excess weight - another cause of ill health.
  • Massaging the internal organs of the body and the rarely stimulated parts such as the thyroid gland.
  • Helping to treat several health disorders - common ones include backache, poor posture and arthritis.
  • Relieving stress and encouraging relaxation and a slower pace of life.

Physio Yoga in the Hatha style is taught by our Chartered Physiotherapist Alan Lyons, who is also a YTTC Yoga Teacher. Our Physio Yoga Classes accommodate people who have injuries or health problems but want to improve the way their body performs. The Yoga exercises are graded according to fitness level and ability and are gradually progressed to maximize improvements.  Physio Yoga Classes focus on precise movements and usually include flexibility postures (asanas), breathing practices (pranayama) and relaxation.

Sometimes a problem, such as an old injury or resistant joint stiffness can get in the way of your yoga practice and may need a little help, such as manual therapy, massage or specific exercise therapy. We can use our physiotherapy expertise to help maximise your movement potential.
